Insulation resistance testing is a quality control test that is performed on cables to check for any cracks, leaks, or general damage of insulation. This test is analogous to a rubber hose hooked up to a sprinkler in your backyard. If there is a leak, hole, or tear in your hose, chances are your sprinkler will not be performing optimally. Similarly, a damaged cable can leak current which may cause issues down line.
When selecting a product for your insulation resistance testing, several factors should be considered. Do you plan on performing tests in a lab or out in the field? At what voltage do you plan to perform your insulation test? Will you be performing the test once or do you plan on performing these tests frequently? These questions, among others, should be carefully considered.
